In 1994,Shenzhen Football Club was formally established under the leadership by China football legend RongZhihang;The team won the championship of China League 2 that year and was promoted to Class B League.
In 1995, The team won the championship of Class B League and was promoted to Class A League, completing the “triple jump at Shenzhen speed”.
In 1996, the team, sponsored by FLYTA, participated in Class A League. Because of the lack of quality and experience, the team ranked 11th and was delegated to Class B League.
In 1997, Ping-An Insurance Group took full control of Shenzhen FC and named the club Shenzhen Ping-An FC. The team won the runner-up of Class B League and was promoted to Class A again.
In 1998, the club hired South Korea football legend Cha Bum-Kun as the first foreign chief coach. By the end of the year, the club succeeded in the buyout of Huochetou football team, acceopting 16 potential young players, including Li Weifeng, the former captain of Chinese national team.
In 1999, Shenzhen team ranked 12th in Class A League and stayed up in the last round.
In 2000, Chinese coach Zhu Guanghu, replacing the Brazilian coach Tabarez, was appointed as chief coach. Shenzhen Team ranked 9th that year.
In 2001, under the leadership of Zhu Guanghu, Shenzhen team ranked 5th.
